About

missiologoMissioChurch is the church planting organization of The Brethren Church, a denomination headquartered in Ashland, Ohio. Our vision is to contribute to a national church planting movement with regional focus. The team is made up of planters and pastors from around the U.S. who have a passion for seeing God’s kingdom come through the multiplication of new faith communities.

We embrace an eclectic approach to church planting believing that God is speaking to His people in many different ways and that the expressions of those dreams will take on many forms. In other words, we are open to God's leading in your life and the many forms, styles, or models of churches God may be leading you and your team to plant.

MissioChurch was established primarily for planters. Our staff  and partners are personally committed to providing an experience which not only stewards well their calling but also provides some of the background structures and resources that manage the expected risks inherent in the church planting experience.

We realize that planters do not often plant alone or in a vacuum. Most have a home church or missions group that is supporting their calling and intending on playing some role in the life of the plant and planter. The best intentions of these parent groups or the strength of their desire to plant or to help plant does not always translate into the best experience for either the mother churches/groups or the plants. MissioChurch is constantly developing resources and structures to come alongide these groups to help them manage the risks inherent in their experience. We pray that more and more churches and missions groups will develop a culture of multiplication and we desire to help them do just that.

Our Name: "MissioChurch"

People have asked, "What is MissioChurch? What does your name mean?" It's really quite simple. You see, for us, we believe that Christians have been commissioned to go into all the earth making disciples (Matthew 28:16-20, Ephesians 4:11-13). This is our "mission."

The word missio is Latin, and it also means "mission." You may have heard of the latin phrase, missio dei, which means, "mission of God." Much like our mission to make disciples comes from God, and the theology behind the missio dei, we wanted to convey that we were joining God in his mission by allowing our organizational mission to jive with God's. In a sense, we wanted to be missional.

Therefore, it was only fitting to combine missio with Church because we wanted to be the church and make disciples, but also to carry on the mission God has commissioned us with by multiplying churches. That's how we arrived at "MissioChurch." (And, yes, it did take us THAT long to come with the name too!)
