Assessment
Although one’s calling is an extremely personal facet of one’s relationship with God, we believe that this calling is both apprehended and affirmed within the body of believers. As such, it must have a public dimension which lends itself to mutual discernment and confirmation. Through study and observation, many tools have been developed to facilitate this process.
So that we may be better stewards of the persons and dreams which God trusts us with, Missiochurch is committed to identifying and utilizing the most appropriate methods to help all involved arrive at a unified sense of consensus and affirmation of the candidate’s calling. The process of assessment is also designed to help the candidate and Team members:
- Discern appropriate timing
- Discern appropriate cultural setting
- Discern unique risk factors for planter and core team
- Discern the candidate’s strengths/weaknesses
- Develop a picture of the kind of core team needed
- Manage risk factors
Statistics show that out of all individuals called to full-time ministry only a minority have the necessary skill sets, gift mixes and temperaments to provide the leadership needed for healthy and successful planting. The assessment process gives both the candidate and the Team the opportunity to objectively evaluate church planting potential based upon these various characteristics. If there is consensus that the candidate’s calling is in another direction, Missiochurch will work with the Mobilization Team through the coaching ministry to help the candidate discern their best fit. The goal is not to turn persons away from Church Planting but rather to be the best stewards of God’s men and women we can be.
